Potentially the worst purchase I™€™ve ever made

Easily the worst appliance I™€™ve ever owned. I would also say that the dishwasher is just as bad. The oven is fine, but not great but this refrigerator is unbelievable how awful it is. I™€™ve had technicians come out constantly and even the GE technicians all tell me how terrible this is and how idiotically it™€™s been designed it constantly breaks it constantly stops cooling the food and then I have to open the doors and leave it open for 48 hours at a time it was a ton of food and then go buy all that food back and restock my fridge every few months it™€™s a joke how insanely awful this refrigerator is I consistently tell every single person I can not to buy this fridge. I would never buy any GE refrigerator ever again if my life depended on it. All of my problems started while it was still in warranty and never stopped after the warranty ended now I just have to hope for the best whenever it happens.

Sealed System Failed

This refrigerator was loud from day one. 3 weeks after the 5 year warranty was up it quit cooling. The sealed refrigerant system had failed. Local techs would not repair it and GE/Cafe would not offer help for repair / replacement. The best they could offer was 25% off of parts that no-one would actually replace. Now I have a $4,000.00 boat anchor. Thanks.

Looks great and runs fine. However, It vibrates and makes loud noises. It vibrates that it causes glassware in the fridge to make noise. It also makes loud noises when cooling and pumping water.

Build quality less that it should be

Quality build of drawers inside the refrigerator is vey poor. Looks like brown glue is showing through the plastic drawers. Very unsatisfied with this. One year warranty has passed, so I guess I am stuck with it. Everything else is good except this. Seems like the warranty should be longer than a year. This is obviously a build quality issue which I think should still be covered. I have photos but the add images feature does not work.

Ergonomic design is Terrible

The shelving is not flexible enough it is not ergonomic. The position of the water spigot is terrible. It is too high and in a location that is difficult to reach on the inside left-hand side of the door. It is impossible to get a pitcher under it. The one wide drawer for deli items should be two separate drawers. The fact that you have to open the left side door first before the right is a pain. Opening the left door is difficult due to the seal

The fridge is very pretty, but don't waste your money on this piece of garbage. Ours went out after 2 years and guess what, they don't want to cover the compressor problem under warranty. Do yourself a favor and find a better fridge.

Beautiful exterior but lacking in functionality

I™€™m extremely disappointed with the interior water spicket dispenser as I have to use all my body weight for it to work. I called to report the issue and was told to give it two weeks to resolve but I highly doubt it will be any different. The quality of the freezer section is also disappointing as the trays are very flimsy. I also was expecting to door bins to have the nonslip rubber liners but was told that my model didn™€™t include them but I could purchase a set for $85 which I declined because I already paid a lot for this fridge. My old kitchen aid that I replaced cost a lot less and they were included with it. The doors don™€™t open as wide as my old fridge either so I feel some confined at times especially when I™€™m opening the fresh bins.

We™€™ve only had the fridge 2 years. First condenser failed, second condenser failed. Tech left the house today after installing the third condenser and the fridge is still 63 degrees circulating warm air. We have been WITHOUT A FRIDGE FOR A MONTH. The techs and call center don™€™t seem to think that™€™s a problem. They won™€™t expedite the issue even when it™€™s a massive failure on their part. They will just give you another appointment two weeks out! Absolutely the worst customer service I™€™ve had for any product. Doesn™€™t matter how good the fridge looks, its not worth going months without a working appliance or taking 4 days off work to babysit the multiple service visits. STAY AWAY from GE and their Bidwell contractors.

The only complaint I have is the water dispenser is in a terrible location and requires the use of 2 hands. For this price point of appliance GE could have done much better. All the other features are very nice. Thankfully there™€™s plenty of room to keep a jug of water. It™€™s such a pain I don™€™t use it. If your a big water drinker skip this model for sure.

Avoid Cafe at all costs

Terrible. I have no other words. I had an issue with condensation in the fridge and frost in the freezer pretty much from day one. Long story short, over 2.5 years i had10+ service calls, the complete loss of everything in my freezer due to motor dying, countless calls and emails with no resolution other than the unit being deemed non repairable. GE eventually offered me a prorated discount on an new fridge, however, fun fact, I am a pretty large buyer of GE products for our apartment building portfolio and was offered a much better deal from one of our wholesalers. Regardless, it dies under warranty and i was not going to buy a new one so i began legal action. That worked and the unit was replaced. The new unit has frost in the freezer due to the freezer door not sealing properly. I am attempting to get that issue resolved but the time and money this has cost so far has me wary of any cafe appliances. Also my microwave and dishwasher in the same matched packaged both failed So while i have had good luck professionally with apartment grade appliances, the Cafe brand is something i would avoid at all costs Positive note, they do look great

Best counter-depth refrigerator I could find.

I have only had this refrigerator for a couple of weeks but I really like it considering it™€™s a counter depth appliance. This new fridge replaced a twenty-year-old GE Arctic side by side with custom panels which looked great but had multiple problems with the ice dispenser located on the door. This time I knew I did not want ice or water in the door as these appliances have more problems long-term (especially on the french door models). The led lighting on my new GE is much improved-you can easily see/find items on the shelves. And, because of the french door layout there is more room than my previous fridge. I also like the matt black finish a lot more than I thought I would-it doesn™€™t show fingerprints unlike my black stainless dishwasher. One down side is the glass shelves-for the price they should be sturdier. This is a higher end product-but compared to my old GE this new fridge is made a lot flimsier-and the workmanship is sloppy. I can see at the edges a little white at the seams-which I believe is insulation-I used a black magic marker to color the white black so it looks ok, but quality control is poor. In closing let™€™s just say needing a counter-depth fridge (that is black) and fits my custom cut opening left me with options. I research everything I buy so I knew not to buy the appliances that start with the letter S or L. This left me with even fewer options™€¦.but my old GE Arctic lasted twenty years so I would be stupid if I bought anything else. Bottom line: so far it™€™s a good fridge but it™€™s new. I can only hope it lasts as long as the last one. I would buy this refrigerator again.

Could love it a little more

I love the matte black finish and the handles. The ice maker works well in the freezer after 2 years so that is a big plus. But the freezer is much smaller then I realized in the store and the water dispenser inside the refrigerator is worthless. It requires both hands at an awkward position to hold the button with one hand while holding the glass up to the wall with the other. My 80+ year old mother cannot operate it, nor can my grandchildren. Our daughter tried to find an adapter that apparently works for other brands with a simple screw but we can not find anything for this brand. If anyone knows of an adapter for this, I would increase my rating to a 3 - maybe a 4 or a 5 if it came from a GE Rep.

We are very happy with our Cafe refrigerator. It has lots of space and the space is very well organized - seem to hold much more than our last fridge which was about the same size. We like the outside surface which doesn't show the fingerprints. Highly recommend!

Glass in Your Eye?! Maybe!!

I've had it for a little over a month now and disregarding the inane water dispersal location and its ergonomic absurdity, while cleaning one of the glass shelves today, it inexplicably shattered into an innumerable amount of pieces. Thankfully I closed my eyes as the shards flew in each and every direction. Also, thankful that my 6-year old wasn't around during the 'Glass Explosion of 2023.' The quality of products in the post-pandemic years is absurd considering the economic times, but I do not expect to meet my Maker from exsanguination from using my refrigerator.
